Since the launch of Netflix’s streaming service along with others like Disney+ and Amazon Prime, we have grown used to them so much that they’re just a part of most people’s everyday life. However the best thing about Netflix is the fact that it’s a true breakaway from broadcast TV. There have been some amazing shows that came out on broadcast TV but censorship was always an issue. So many things couldn’t be said or done due to things like religion, concern for children or older senses of propriety.
In Netflix however, it’s just a sheer melting pot of creativity. Creators can truly portray their vision without worry or intervention. And this has led to the release of Netflix original shows such as ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Sex Education’ which have reached unbelievable levels of success. Broadcast TV is still trudging on but it is slowly deteriorating with the exception of live sport. It’s bittersweet but in all fairness, some of the best shows we gained from broadcast TV are being ported onto streaming sites anyway. These sites are here to stay and that’s an unbelievably good thing. They’ve improved the intake of content, made accessibility to many people’s favourite shows much easier and most importantly, let creators bring their vision to life their way
