Uncontrollable excitement

At this point I think it’s safe to say that the latest film in Tom Holland’s run in the iconic role of Spiderman has reached a new level of anticipation. ‘Spiderman No Way Home’ is one of the most if not the most anticipated movie of all time. Never in my life have I seen more youtube videos and channels dedicated to the excitement for this movie. And that’s not to mention the many social media accounts dedicated to the same thing. Whether it’s leaks, spoilers or easter eggs to find in all the trailers and TV spots, you can bet that the fan base for the superhero genre is finding and leaking all of them. As well as that, that fanbase has actually grown since the release of this film’s first teaser trailer.

But why is a superhero movie this anticipated when we’ve gotten used to a steady release of them in the last decade? It’s because when Alfred Molina appeared at the end of the first teaser, reprising his role as Dr. Otto Octavius(Doc Ock), people who experienced their childhood in the noughties felt their childhood rushing back to them. The Sam Raimi directed Spiderman films from that time were iconic and the return of actors from that trilogy introduced through a multiverse concept in the film is genius. As well as Alfred Molina, returning actors include Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin, Thomas Hayden Church as Sandman and Tobey Maguire as Spiderman once again. A few actors from Andrew Garfield’s run as Spiderman will also be returning. Rhys Ifans as Lizard, Jaime Foxx as Electro and Andrew Garfield as Spiderman once again, reprising his role along with Tobey Maguire in a multiversal mashup of nostalgia, three Spidermen and pure enjoyment. This movie is proof of the power of nostalgia and this is why it’s as anticipated as it is. A new movie that’s taking what people love from three different film renditions of a true comic icon and combining them together into what will hopefully be a masterpiece.
